About Curly

Born in Dallas, Texas on Christmas Eve, 1956, Steve Gouge hails from a musical family. His father was the Music Director at the family’s church and his mother played piano. One of his older brothers played guitar and Steve watched him very closely from an early age. Soon he picked up a guitar and began to play!

He began his musical career at age 12 while pickin’ on the front porch after Sunday dinner with relatives. As a background artist he played upright bass for a number of years appearing at bluegrass festivals in Missouri, Kansas and Texas.

Inspired by the sounds of Merle Travis and Chet Atkins, and some kind words of encouragement from his dear friend "Pop" Penrod, he found his calling with the finger-style guitar and has been burning up the strings ever since. Steve is a master finger-style guitarist and is truly an entertainer not to be missed!

Steve is an Eagle Scout that still enjoys camping and the outdoors with his wife of 24 years, Carol, and their 16 yr. old son Christopher.
